UUs Invited to Keep Families Together

Hello good UUSJ immigration justice folks,

Your UUSJ Immigration Action Team (IAT) has been getting to know the Value Our Families (VOF) coalition, which works on family immigration and related visa dynamics in our current system — something we care about. As a consequence, we have an advocacy opportunity to share.

This June, VOF will celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month and the reintroduction of the Reuniting Families Act (RFA) which helps Members of Congress envision a new family immigration system with a Week of Action.

  • From June 5th to June 9th, 2023, VOF will be hosting an in-person (and virtual) week of action in Washington DC to present the updated bill, speak to legislators directly, and bring our community together around this key issue.

UUSJ folks have been invited to participate as allies and supporters alongside VOF folks and their impacted community members! To help showcase that UUs are in solidarity and leverage our comfort and confidence in engaging with Congress.

The RFA outlines a vision to make it easier for families to reunite with their loved ones in the United States, including making 500,000 visas available to address the decades-long backlog in the immigration system and setting a 10-year limit on the wait times to reunify with a family member (currently, some families have waited over 20 years).

The IAT encourages you to join the week of June 5th – June 9th to celebrate its reintroduction and work with us to uplift this important legislation!

VOF will have opportunities to participate in person in Washington, DC, and online.

  • Sign up here to meet with your Member of Congress (in-person or virtually).

  • VOF can offer support for travel and lodging for impacted community members if they are selected to participate in person. If you are both a UU and an impacted community member, you might be eligible.
