Understanding Ourselves & Fundamental Assumptions
Sunday, September 29th, “How we understand ourselves, and the world depends on fundamental assumptions about how things are.”
Dr. Phil Hopkins, Philosophy Professor at Southwestern, is our guest speaker. Dr. Hopkins is the holder of the Lurlyn and Durwood Fleming Professorship in Philosophy and Religion at Southwestern University. Trained as a specialist in Early Greek philosophy, he has published on the worldviews of the earliest Greek thinkers, and the relation of language and identity and morality, particularly in modern consumer culture. In recent years, he has focused his teaching and research on Process Ontology. One of his specialties is “Process Thought” and “the way thinking in terms of time rather than space emphasizes and reveals the richer interconnectedness of what is.” Dr. Hopkins will lead a discussion following the service. Childcare will be provided.
