This month of December we explore the theme of Mystery. I often in my spoken prayer address as “Great Mystery” that God of our Understanding, which some call the Universe, Great Spirit, Father/Mother God, Allah, and all those many Names that attempt to describe the Nameless. In fact, many UUs begin prayer with: “Mystery of many names, Mystery beyond all naming.” How then shall we begin our exploration into this month’s theme? What if we speak of our “direct knowledge as an island in a sea of mystery?” Could this then, be the ground of our faith?  “That all we know, now and forever, all scientific knowledge that we have of this world, or ever will have, is as an island in the sea. And the mystery surrounds us?” Come, let us examine what we can of the Mystery of Life!
