Online Service – The Relevancy of Revolution

How long do past revolutions stay relevant to our lives, to the revolutions happening in our lifetimes? Not all revolutions are equal. That is, we might not have much in common with every single revolution that ever happened in human history. In addition to whether or not they were successful, their relevance to our time would depend on many factors, including underlying structural problems, geographical location, the specific history and culture of the place where the revolution happened. I suspect, though, that we can learn something from all revolutions. I hope that we are living in one of the most important and relevant revolutions ever to occur in history — the beginning of the end of racism. A sweeping statement, yes, but one I so want to be true. This week, I will take you back to another revolution, one that happened not very long ago and is still timely because it hasn’t ended yet. I am talking about the feminist revolution of the 1960s, 70s and 80s. I will tell you personal, political stories from this time period — the personal is political, though we don’t like to acknowledge that. Stories are essential to understanding revolution and to making sure that the torch — the flame of revolution — stays lit throughout the dark times.
