San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s Annual Pledge Drive begins in March. With every pledge drive in every congregation I have ever been part of, the subject of growth becomes a “hot topic” for a few weeks. Then, for the rest of the year, the subject is usually neglected. When I talk about growth, though, I mean more than numerical growth. There are — or should be — other kinds of growth that are equally important in an organization such as ours. If we are clever and creative, I think that we may be able to turn growth into money! I don’t mean that literally, but rather as a metaphor, in the sense that if we do growth right, then people will realize the value of this precious community and give accordingly during the annual canvass.
