Online Service – When Easter Becomes More Than Chocolate Bunny Rabbits and Colorful Eggs

Through the ages spiritual communities have often celebrated the experience of rebirth and renewal of life. The most ancient celebrations were focused on the rebirth of Nature with the coming of springtime. In the third century, Christians instituted a celebration of the renewal of life in the belief about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Spiritual communities today often attach the term “Easter” to both of these celebrations and culturally mix the idea of rebirth and new life to the cyclical pattern of Nature and to resurrection event proclaimed in the Jesus story. On this Sunday that the Christian community has referred to as Easter, Rev. Lou Snead will attempt to unpack the intersection of the renewal of life theme in both Nature worship and in the Christian proclamations about the resurrection of Jesus. The service will invite us to contemplate the meaning of Easter in terms of beliefs about miracles and affirmations about the power of hope and love in the face of death and despair.
