A Sense of Place

Our theme for October asks “How are we a people of Sanctuary?” Sanctuary is a place of security and safety – sometimes it is a physical space, and yet it can also be a feeling we carry inside of us. If that is true, how do these two concepts interact? Time I recently spent on an island emphasized the natural boundaries of our world. How do boundaries, both physical and mental, real and artificial, inform our behavior? Maybe the boundary between the mental and the physical is less defined than we think.  Perhaps a sense of security within ourselves is what allows for the creation of physical Sanctuary for others. What does that mean for us at San Gabriel, as we create a sense of place? What does that mean for us as Unitarian Universalists?
