Hello, San Gabriel!
My name is John Faber and I’m excited to be stepping into the role of all-online Administrator for San Gabriel UU Fellowship! I’m hailing from Bryan, Texas in the heart of Aggieland just a few miles North of Texas A&M, about an hour and forty minutes East of Georgetown. I live with my wife Allison, our two boys Liam and Reid, our dog Pearl, our cat Otto, and all the other critters that seem to love our yard.
I wanted to take a moment to say hello as Sean McClurkan graciously helps me prepare this week’s newsletter. I am very excited about this opportunity to build the beloved community with San Gabriel UU! I have been serving the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley, UUCBV or Brazos UU for short, as their Online Administrator and Technical Support since they hired me during the Covid-19 shutdown of March 2020 to take our church fully virtual. A lot of my experience serving Brazos UU seems to translate very well into this new role at San Gabriel, and I hope my work here has a positive impact on the future of SGUUF and UUs in Texas as a whole. By the way, congratulations on the recent 15 year anniversary and cheers to many more!
I’ve been talking with several folks at San Gabriel leading up to starting this position and I’m starting to get a lay of the land as best as I can in an all-virtual capacity, including working with Sean McClurkan, Molly Hornbuckle, Ron and Jacquie Karash, our DRE Corinna, and Rev. Jami as I start to settle in. I’ve even spoken with Frank Sanders on how I might help with Sunday Tech since I am a one-man Tech team for UUCBV.
I wanted to keep this newsletter introduction relatively brief because I am working on a fun video introduction that will allow you to get to know me better in lieu of being there in person. The family and I actually drove by San Gabriel UU last year and got a large yummy slice of pizza at 600 Degrees Pizzeria, so I’m always open for an excuse to go back if anyone wants to join me the next time I’m in town! Perhaps you know a good place too?
If anyone would like to communicate with me or just want to reach out and say hello, I am monitoring the sguufellowship@sangabrieluu.org email address. I also figured we could schedule a Zoom meeting in the near future to have a virtual meet and greet.
That’s all I have for now! I look forward to learning more about SGUUF and how I can best serve the community here as we build the beloved community together!
Thanks and have a great week!
-John
