In the service for August 16, Rev. Lou Snead will explore the challenges that our current health, economic, and social crises have created in this unprecedented time. What are we discovering about ourselves as we live through a pandemic, an economic disaster for essential workers, and the social upheaval over racial justice and equity issues, all at the same time? We are not the first nation or era that has had to contend with a plague, survival, and a call for freedom together at once. So, what spiritual and social issues and resources must we address in this time of crisis in our nation? The title of the sermon for this Sunday is “Imagining Freedom” and will draw on the biblical experience of a people longing for freedom from both a deadly plague and social oppression thousands of years ago. Lou Snead is a retired Presbyterian minister who lives in Sun City and has served on the Social Justice Committee of SGUUF for more than six years. He brings his church experiences, his community activism with Courageous Conversations and the Georgetown Housing Advisory Board, and his appreciation for history as resources for this Sunday service.
