The word “grace” is one of the most difficult words in the English language to define, I think. Understanding how the concept of grace under pressure might be useful to us in our daily lives is equally challenging. Grace implies many things, including beauty, mercy, forgiveness, gratitude, kindness, compassion. Yet even listing some of the words that might define grace does not capture its essence. The words that try to define what grace is not are even more problematic and puzzling. How do people of faith embody grace when under pressure? What keeps us from “losing it” in the midst of not one, but two pandemics? What calls us back to some semblance of sanity in an insane world? This week, we will explore all of that and more, including how can grace under pressure become a spiritual practice for us?
