Immigrants and asylum seekers undertake a perilous journey to the Mexican-Texan border, and hurdle the obstacles of the immigration legal system, but then what happens after their successful entry? This Sunday, the Social Justice team will explore the topic of “immigration justice”. You won’t want to miss the stories of this Chat Session! Michelle Augustine will provide a brief description of her recent travels to the refugee encampment in Matamoros. Mike Sebald will share a local client’s journey through the legal pathway to citizenship and how this local non-profit offers assistance. Irma Collins will convey one immigrant teenager’s story of the many obstacles the student encounters in acclimating to their new school and community in Georgetown. These are stories of “resilience and hope”.
This is our last “Share the Plate” offering for this year. Any loose dollars or coins collected in the offering baskets will be designated for the Social Justice’s Immigration budget. You may also donate by check and mark in the memo line “for SJ Immigration”. Your donations will support the non-profit Immigration Legal Services of Georgetown and will support Team Brownsville, who offer food, clothing, blankets, hygiene products, etc. to refugees waiting in the Mexican encampment and immediately when they are allowed to enter into the United States.
See you Sunday!
